I think they should be given more importance to. First, you always have to consider what may happen to your business in the long run. Though I must say that we need to take risks too when opening/starting a business. Having said that, you need not put in all of your money on a said business especially when you're just starting, or if it's just experimental. I think 1 and 10 are inter related somehow.
