[...] As with everything else in Internet business, it was a test…and this one turned out not to be worth the space. There was a lot of hype around the blogosphere about this, but it’s easy to see why. Since you earn credits from people you refer, bloggers wanted to be the fastest and quickest to recommend something with all their heart. While that may get you the most referrals in the system (and the traffic that goes with those referrals), I’ve always found it much safer to take the time to test before throwing out blanket recommendations. You can see my original post about it here. [...]

Nifty review Mr. Dean. And you're absolutely right -- it's a lot of hype.

And did you know BlogRush is going to sell 4 out of every 5 headline spots to the highest bidder -- and guess who keeps the cash? Hint: It's not the bloggers.

Thanks for the insight, Terry. From my viewpoint, the blogrush controversy is stirring quite a lot of interest. Good, bad or indifferent, I think that many boisterous bloggers like to 'mix it up' and John Reese must be revelling in that.

Hi Terry. I've installed the BlogRush widget on my blog ( http://itsanonlineworld.blogspot.com/ ) after initially thinking that it's a simple, but potentially very effective solution.

The buzz around it is pretty astonishing - the launch has certainly been something to watch as it spreads round the blogosphere with such speed.

At the end of the day though, although I think on balance that the widget will deliver value, a blog's success will come down to one simple thing: does it have up-to-date content that engages with it's audience.

All the traffic in the world won't fill the gap if you haven't got engaging, informative, entertaining content to keep your readers coming back for more and recommending you.

I wrote a post on my blog giving 7 reasons why I wont be installing it on my blog, I don't think it will be good for the masses, just the few high traffic sites that already have traffic.

I made a plugin for wordpress that provides a titled achor text to the last post of the person who comments, it's a lot fairer to link to your commenters than some stranger who could be using paid traffic to up their credits...

Your post is one of the very few non-hype reviews of blogrush, bravo!

Thanks for the link, Terry. Glad you found it reasonable. The "rush" of hype is a bit much to take, although I have to say it's been masterfully done. Anybody involved in marketing who isn't impressed by what John's done with BlogRush would have to be completely brain-dead.
