Choosing a Mentor or Coach

Who is coaching you to success online?

When I first started online, there wasn’t anyone teaching how to market online. I jumped on everything Jay Abraham had to offer along with other marketing experts. I studied it…thought about how it applied in the online market…and then tested all the different techniques in multiple selling situations online.

Even though I never had a formal coaching relationship with him, I do credit him as my success coach. I made a lot of modifications of what I learned for the online market, but my basics still came from him.

Why did I choose him when starting out? I looked at a lot of the marketing experts, and his methods were the ones I most identified with. Unlike many other marketers, his methods were almost always customer focused…providing some benefit or advantage to the customer. He was a little less hypey than the other choices I had, and it resonated more with me.

I’m sure you have the same experience. There are marketers you identify better with than others. Find a way to “coach” with them either one-on-one or through the products they offer. Experience is the best teacher, but it’s also the most expensive one. Cut your learning curve and achieve the goals you’re reaching for much faster by modeling those who are already successful.

The key is to pick someone you feel comfortable with…both in personality and with their methods.

So the question isn’t whether you should have a mentor and coach. The only question is who should it be.
