For my latest ebook (seoeductionsecrets), I use honesty in my sales letter.

I lose some sales, because my salespage is simple and not aggressive, but I think it will pay in the long run.

Until now, customers like it.

Marketing doesn't mean lying!

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the comment. I didn't implement the principle you write about, I didn't know it.

In my "honest copy" I wrote that there is no results quarantee for this product, that the single way to know will this product help them or not is to implement the information from the ebook for required period of time, and that it will require additional 30 bucks to use information from this ebook. Too much "honesty" I think:-)

Also now (after reading your comment) I understand that perhaps it was bad copy and that I didn't test the "honest copy" against the same copy without the above information so I really can't say whether the bad results relate to honesty or the copy itself.

But if you reveal too many flaws then you will become a liability. Best to reduce your flaws and be honest whenever you can.

Hi Rodion,

I'm not sure if you really meant "Honesty didn't work for you."

Remember a key principle is that when you reveal your flaws you should also make sure to let the customers know why your flaw may be an advantage to them in some way.

You want to be honest in your business. And honesty doesn't have to mean bad sales copy.

I tried honesty in my sales letter. I didn't work for me. I tried it in Russian internet and new honest sales letter did worse than the old one (which was very bad). I think it works only in english speaking internet where people are over saturated with marketing messages.

Couldn't agree more... Honesty increases credibility and builds trust, and should be #1 on our list of best business practices; especially for online business where scamming and deception are a very common practice. Good article.
