That looks like a very useful sample letter. Most people running successful business are pretty busy... so it's crucial to get to the point quickly, otherwise you'll get lost in the shuffle...

Thank you Dave, Lee, and Rod:

Direct mail definitely gets people's attention better than email alone (I have people collect direct mail information while visiting sites).

That "Matrix Maneuver" is definitely going to grab someone's attention!

Hi Terry,

I am glad you are back man. I hope you jump back on the speaking circuit as you are one of the only REAL marketers out there that provides actual usable content instead of just a pitch fest. If anyone gets a chance to see Terry live, don't give it a second thought, you won't be sorry.

Anyway, I agree with the format of your JV letter above and the points you make. I try do all of them.

I also have a neat little trick that I call the "Matrix Maneuver" that hasn't failed me yet in at least getting a return phone call from my potential JV partner.

It is a bit more expensive than a phone call or an email, but if you are really trying to get someone's attention, it does the trick.

If you recall in the movie "The Matrix" when Neo (AKA Mr. Anderson) goes to work in his boring job, one day he receives a cell phone at work in a FedEx package. I have done this on numerous occasions using a prepaid phone with a short note attached with a pre-recorded voicemail or just my number in the speed dial programmed into the phone.

I have also used a small digital recorder with a message, a DVD, USB Memory Stick and a MP3 player with a recording.

Receiving something like this gives the receiver a sense that you are serious about doing something with them and acts as a catalyst for reciprocity.

Anyway, hope this adds some value,

Hi all

Just to continue this game of 'six degrees of seperation' it's worth noting that I learnt a considerable amount about JV marketing from Dave who commented above!

In fact, I was a contributor and JV partner for one of the launches he mentions above, and I learnt a lot from our correspondence about how to create and manage profitable JV events.

And of course I've also learnt plenty from Terry too, with this blog being an incredible source of information that everyone should read.

Thanks Terry and thanks Dave too!

Hey Terry,

I'm a customer of your Internet Marketing Protege course (on cassette tape). That was a few years ago if I remember correctly. I wore out the oxide on a couple of tapes, especially the JV marketing tapes!

It's ironic. Jimmy Brown credits you for much of his success and I credit you and Jimmy for mine. Which by 6 degrees of separation points back to you either way :-)

Did that make sense? LOL

There was an empty hole in the I.M. market when you left. It was like Michael Jordan leaving the NBA. So I'm glad to see you back.

Long story short, thanks to what I learned from you in the past, I was not only able to land some JV partners, but create and launch two 7-day JV events that generated $65,000 and $76,000 respectively (in sales).

I might add, that when all else fails, nothing gets a prospective JV partner's attention more than snail mail ;-0
