Intern Program – Step-By-Step Internet Marketing

February 6, 2008

What’s an intern program?

In Wikipedia, it is defined as a temporary position with on the job training. It is also similar to an apprenticeship. An internship can be either paid, unpaid, or partially paid.

The intern program I offer is unpaid. It also has no cost to join.

It’s your opportunity to learn how to run an Internet business for Free by doing the work daily in my business. The current intern program is 12 weeks long and focusing on doing 1 to 2 hours of work 5 days per week…for a total of 60 activities.

The key difference here compared to most “online learning” is you will learn by doing. Each day you will receive an activity. Many of the days will also include an online video for you to watch. You will be given an assignment to follow which takes you 1 to 2 hours.

What will you learn? You’ll learn activities such as writing headlines, submitting to blog carnivals, blog writing, press release writing, social bookmarking, video creation, contacting JV partners, finding blogs to comment on, and more.

You’ll discover how to market a business online.

But this intern is NOT for everyone…and I wouldn’t recommend it to most of my readers.

If you join the intern program, you’re making a commitment to do the work FOR MY BUSINESS while you’re an intern. During the 12 weeks, you’re committing to do these activities to promote my sites, not your own. Once you’re through the intern program, you’re then free to follow the exact same strategies and techniques to promote your own business.

Obviously this program is not for those who simply want to fill their head with more knowledge without taking action.

It’s also not for those who just want another training program to help them promote their business. By signing up, you are committing to be an intern for my business. You’re promising that is how you will use these techniques for the next 12 weeks…to promote the sites as listed.

If you want to be trained in all the activities, but don’t want to go through the intern period…then don’t join during this period. Wait and keep an eye on this blog. You can expect to see the opportunity to purchase similar training opportunities in the future for these steps.

Update: We had an overwhelming response of new intern sign-ups from this post. At the moment we’re not looking for any new interns to sign-up although this will change in the future. I cannot give a specific time frame for this, but keep an eye on the blog.

    Terry,
Do you give feedback on the work your interns do? Whether it is great, OK or mediocre.

    Annette

    Hello Annette,

Feedback is given at times, but it is on a schedule where you don’t receive it on a majority of assignments. Consider it minor feedback on the extent of just how pleased we are with your work over a period of several weeks.

Can you elaborate on this point more?
“Successful completion of the intern program may open up other paid promotional opportunities for my business.”
    Thanks

    Hi Michael,

Some interns who do a great job may be hired as an outsourcer to continue doing similar work to what they already did well (they’ve proven themselves). This is not a guarantee though as only a few will be chosen for that type of outsourcing.

Terry…The Intern program sounds good. I have a few questions:
    1. I tried two intern programs last month and after I performed a few tasks I never heard from the “Intern Directors” again…not even an explanation…the next task never came. (Waste of my time!) One was a 3 week internship. Can your Intern program be completed in less than 12 weeks?
    2. Will any software products be a “reward” for completing the program?
I’m willing to give it a try…with the right person.
    Thanks Terry!

    @ Todd:
There seems to be a glut of intern programs at the moment, probably because James Brausch has been recommending them to everyone who reads his blog. If they follow James’ example, they’ll state that the owner of the program has no obligation to the interns, or vice-versa.
You’ll probably find that you need to complete each task in order to get the URL for the next task. Maybe you didn’t complete a task quickly enough?
I find it strange that you call it a waste of your time – did you not learn anything at all? The intention behind all these programs is not so much to teach you anything (that happens as a side effect) but to build the intern program owner’s business. You accept that going in.

    Hi Todd and Michael,

I can’t comment on anyone else’s intern program. Why you didn’t hear from them I have no idea.

Can this one be completed in less than 12 weeks. Yes and no. Yes, because you can quit it at any time. No, because the steps and learning process continue for 12 weeks.

Software products are not rewarded to you because no paid software programs are required.

Michael: Actually I do consider an intern program as a learning process and a habit forming tactic. People learn how to promote by doing it. And in many of the videos I even mention additional info that doesn’t directly help them promote my business (but it will help them in the future).

    Terry,

You are another person I would love to learn from by taking actions based on your direction. You have experience actually help others create Freedom Business Systems. I was sad to see that I missed getting into your intern program. I will keep my eyes open and keep reading and when you open it up again I’ll be ready.

    Hi Terry,

I have your “How to Get Rich In Network Marketing” product that you did some years ago with Frank Garon.

I’m sorry to see your intern program is filled, as I know how good the quality of your program is, and because you’re also always mentioned by James Brausch on his blog. Like Ria, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for when you reopen your program. :-)

    Hello, Terry,

I am interested in your intern program from the teaching aspect because I was an educator for almost 20 years in the public school system. I have been reading about intern programs. The first I read about was the one sponsored by James Brausch and his policy about working for his company and not promoting any business already being run by the intern seems much the same as yours. His does not have a clear-cut length of 12 weeks but most of the factors of work expected seem to be very similar. I was wondering if the concept could be tested in a high school situation or set up as a practice unit for high schoolers? So many new product concepts are coming from teenagers who see a need no one is meeting and they become entrepeneurs with little or no business training. I would be interested in your take on this topic.

    Hi Donna,

Interesting concept. I have had some materials duplicated for students before. The current intern setup I have would require some modifications for that type of use, but it is something for think about as a possibility. I could see how that would add value to their education.

As someone who is researching the most effective way to get started and be successful, an intern program would be perfect. I would love to be a part of your program. I will wait patiently for the next opportunity.
