Jesus – Who Is He?

I don’t make any apologies for being a Christian. If this offends you, then you may not want to read this article.

Many claim God doesn’t exist. Very few claim Jesus never existed. He is a historical figure who walked the earth two thousand years ago. Several questions remain. Who is He? What did He do? And should you believe Him?

Some people say He was a Good Teacher. In fact, most religions claim this. Others say He was a deceiver. Christians say He is God and became one of us to take our place and die for our sins. And of course, the story doesn’t end there…

The truth is, He is either is who He says He is…or He’s a liar…or just outright crazy.

He said He was God (John 8:58, John 10:30). He forgave people’s sins (Mark 2:5-10). He even allowed people to worship Him (John 9:38, John 2:28, Matthew 9:18, Matthew 15:25).

He also claimed there is no other way to God except through Him.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

Wow…He sure doesn’t get along well with any other religions. In fact, He was crucified for His claims of divinity.

If He is supposed to be a good teacher, He didn’t do a very good job. His 12 disciples ran. His own people, His students, called for His death because of His claims.

They tried to stone Him for His claims John 10:33. They put Him to death for His claims (John 19:7).

If your purpose is to teach your people, and they kill you, you didn’t do a very good job. His purpose was much higher than just a teacher. He was to take the place of the sins of all humanity. Then He opened the door for us to have a relationship with God.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosover believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

If His statements about Himself were not true, then He is crazy and a liar. He caused the death of Himself and His followers for His beliefs about His divinity. Why would you call someone a Good Teacher who deserves to be locked up in an insane asylum?

Some might say, “Well, those Bible records about what He said aren’t accurate.”

So the question is, if the Bible isn’t accurate, why would you believe any of it? Once someone has proven themself as a habitual liar, I have trouble believing anything they say. That doesn’t make any sense.

Some other time I’ll cover the outright proof about the accuracy of the Bible…it may surprise you!

It simply doesn’t make any sense to say it’s full of errors, but Jesus was a good teacher. If it’s full of errors, how would you ever know what He taught? You couldn’t. And He obviously wasn’t a good teacher because He was killed by His own audience.

C.S. Lewis, the author of Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, said this in his book, Mere Christianity

You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

I agree…nothing is worse than simply calling Jesus a Good Teacher. Either accept what He said about Himself…or call Him a liar.

I know where I stand.

Hey! I stumbled across your blog (stumbleupon), and just wanted to leave you a word of encouragement. It’s good to see other Christians on the internet :)

A good book to read, which I have been reading for a class lately, is The Death of Truth by Dennis McCallum. It’ll make you reconsider the world in which you live.

    Follow hard!

Hi Terry – Thanks for writing this. I remember reading the book Jesus Who Is He? about 10 years ago.

I’m an unashamed follower of Jesus.

The Bible is an amazing book, not only for its stories, life lessons, parables, prophecies, etc.–but also because of it’s hidden code.

Michael Drosnin (author of The Bible Code) is a non-believer… yet he believes the Bible code! Isn’t that funny?

The three scientists who discovered the code, including the mathematician Eliyahu Ripps, tried to discover similar codes in other books and couldn’t find any.

Regarding “errors” in the Bible: I believe the Bible is infallible… yet I believe man’s translation of the Bible can be fallible. If you compare translations, you will find major differences based on word choice by the translator. So it’s important to use discernment.

Anyway, today I wrote a post on my copywriting blog alluding to my beliefs. In about three weeks, I have a series of posts planned which will be more outspoken about Jesus and my faith. I’m excited to post them.

It’s nice to know I have a “brother” here. :-)

    Hello,

Thank you all for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the article.

On the different translations issue, that reminded back to when I was in Bible College. My Greek professor loved talking to people who come to door to share their beliefs with you. He always invited them in.

At some time during the conversation he would quote something from the Bible, and they would tell him that’s not what it says in the original text. So he’d pull out his New Testament, written in original Greek, put it in their lap, and ask them to please fully explain what it means.

He always found that quite entertaining…

I like your professor’s approach. Nice.

Terry & Ryan… I was so encouraged to see two unashamed followers of Jesus in the “marketing world”, I felt I had to stand up and say, “amen”.

    Thanks for being bold.

    Your Brother in Christ,

    Hey Terry,

I read a lot of your materials when I first started online also. I never realized you were a Christian. I haven’t heard much about you for the past year or so.

Good to see you still around…alive and kicking. And good to know that you are so vocal and unabashed about Jesus! =-)

There actually is a lot of proof that Jesus existed. The book “The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel was written by an atheist investigative reporter that got mad because his wife became a Christian. (This is the same guy who broke the story about the Ford Pinto exploding gas tanks.)

So he went around trying to disprove the existence of Jesus. But what he found showed that Jesus was exactly who he said he was. He converted himself through his investigations.

I read it two months ago, and actually wasn’t really happy about it, for the same reasons you mention in your article. I had some nice, comfortable beliefs in God, and thought there was no way to “know” about Jesus one way or another. I thought to be a Christian means you have to have blind faith. To me, that’s an intellectual cop-out.

So, I don’t do blind faith. Turns out I don’t have to – and since the proof is so persuasive, I don’t really have a choice but to become Christian. Didn’t really want to, but it’s undeniable.

“The Case for a Creator” is even more persuasive and scientifically interesting. Check both out if you have questions about if God or Jesus existed.

    Hi Terry,

I was one of your subscribers in Bizpromo and Netbreakthroughs. I’m so glad you’re back in circulation. As a brother in Christ I just want to encourage you to keep the good work. You remind me of Zig Ziglar who is not ashamed of his faith in a world that denies Christianity.
    Kudos

Thanks for the bold stand… It’s beautiful to see.

Isaiah 52:7 How Beautiful are the Feet of those who bring good news, proclaim peace, bring glad tidings of good things, proclaim salvation, and proclaim to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

    Hey Terry,

I praise the LORD that your a christian, as are many
    others on this site.

For those of you out there that dont believe in JESUS,
heres something for you to think about……..

….IF GOD the Father and his awesome son JESUS CHRIST
didnt exist, then, the Church,as we know it would have crumbled
alooong time ago, and the HOLY BIBLE would not be the #1 bestselling
    book of all time.

    IHS,
    Ron

    Hi Terry,
I hugely respect you as a marketing expert and I also respect your faith even though, as an atheist, I don’t personally share it. I accept Jesus as a historical figure and I also accept the humanity of his core teachings. I don’t agree with your argument about accepting (or otherwise) what he says about himself because what we read in the Bible is, of course, actually what someone else wrote that he said about himself – it doesn’t come directly from his lips.

I don’t think people like myself should be precluded from learning something from someone we regard as a wise and good man – something he certainly was.

    All the best,

    Kevin

Hello Terry, I’ve been receiving your emails for a couple of months now and enjoy them immensely, but today I googled “christian business coaching” and up came this article. I too am a Christian and I am thrilled to find out you are too. Bless you many times over for your bold statements and living out your faith through you integrity.

As a therapist (MFT) and Small Business Coach – it is good to meet other Christian business people who market online. Many blessings!

Got something to say?
