Thank you for sharing this very valuable information about linking. This is exactly what i have been searching for. I have been using socialmarker.com as Terry Dean suggested I do and it has worked great. I was just looking for even more opportunities to create a boat load of links and I hit the jackpot with this article. Thanks again,

thanks Nick and Terry, very useful info; i've saved it too for future reference.
personally i prefer submitting to directories, free and paid, as well as commenting in forums and blogs...I'm glad you mention about the age of a link, ergo the age of a website and it's authority deriving from the age and trust (general value), as there seems to be some lively discussions in the search engine forums on this point recently

i need to read more of what you gentlemen have to say, cheers

Nice article, with a good summary of various different techniques for getting backlinks. One question though: why does "nofollow" seem to have been snipped out of the article at various places? That seems like something that a script would do automatically.

I think this is good information, but I am surprised at how easy some people seem to find it to do. I have spent 3 years building up a list of blogs where it is useful to post (in SEO terms) and I have wasted a lot of time on unproductive methods before I have learnt how to get results which give a good return on my time. IMO there is a big difference in knowing what to do in link building and knowing how to do it.

Also DIM check the PR of old blog posts. Recent posts can be showing no PR because the TBPR has not been update for a few months.

Peter, this is not about increasing your PR, this is about getting to Google page 1. And there is a difference.

Surely, if there is a choice between:

* get 50 backlinks from inside relevant blog posts of PR 5
OR
* get 50 backlinks from inside relevant blog posts of PR 0

Then it is obvious that 50 PR5 backlinks are much better.

But usually for each of these backlinks you will need to dance and twist to negotiate a backlink. So, meanwhile you are building let's say a fair amount of 10 backlinks from inside blog posts where each post has PR 3, in Free Traffic System one can build several hundred backlinks.

You are correct, all these backlinks will be from PR0 posts (heck, these are fresh posts - it cannot be another way). But as the experience shows a big number of PR0 backlinks with proper anchor from the posts on relevant blogs is ok about pushing site to Google page 1.

And increasing your PR? I do not think that these backlinks are going to seriously boost your PR. But our clients have plenty of sites with a small PR (1,2,3) and these sites have great spots on page 1 for very serious keywords.

I have been trying www.freetrafficsystem.com, it does what it says it does and my articles are being posted on blogs. However when I check out the blogs some of them I can't find and some of them have PR0. I have only been doing it a few days, so it will be a while before I see any results. I just can't see how being linked to PR0 sites can help my own PR.

Being totally uneducated in the art of internet marketing, all your posts are very informative for me. I have been doing link building for some websites who outsourced it to me. Till date I never knew why is was so important. Now I do! Thanks for the lesson.

Link Building Strategies is a very good blog post. Thanks for putting thought into your content and truly showing your expertise. Thanks for the heads up on the devaluing of reciprocal linking compared to direct linking, as well as buying links. Those are two traps that well intentioned enthusiastic people fall into that can definitely work against them.

Thanks Nick (& Terry)!

Your list is long and your content well informed. If you wanted to make it longer, I suppose you could add video marketing.

Questions: Any suggestions as to how to find relevant (non-local) blogs and forums other than big-name ones?

And any suggestions as to how to promote my affiliate marketing sites relevantly on social media sites that forbid even the smell of affiliate marketing? Socializing about a puppy litter and snow on the way to the Post Office doesn't seem to draw targeted traffic for work at home products.

Regards,

Peter
