Mindmap Software
Do you use mindmaps? I do to help me brainstorm my ideas. There are times I even work with some of my clients on their mindmaps. If you’ve never heard of mindmapping, see this definition from Wikipedia.
Simply put, you start in the center and draw a diagram of your ideas. Each line going outward contains one idea which you keep expanding on. The concept was created by Tony Burzan you can see from this video on Youtube.
Until now I’ve never been really happy with any mindmapping software. I’ve always found them confusing to use, and have went back to my dry erase board each time I tried a software program (this includes the one Tony Burzan’s company sells at http://imindmap.com/download/).
I tried out http://www.comapping.com this past week, and I love it. It uses a very different structure from all the other mindmapping programs. Instead of working from the center, you work from left to right.
It seems to be limited in it’s current abilities such as having no graphics, but I find it much more useful than other software tools for mindmapping. The primary use of course being the way it works when you have multiple people viewing the same mindmap. You can all work on it together online, making it an incredible tool for mindmapping and brainstorming as part of team over the Internet.
I’m not an affiliate with them. You can try it out for free at their site for 30 days. Then it costs $11.99 for 6 months.
I’m sure I’ll continue to use my mindmaps off the computer, but the Comapping tool gives me a way to also produce those mindmaps and even share them with others in a more understandable way. While the normal mindmap is great for brainstorming, I like most people, find them extremely confusing when looking at someone else’s mindmap. Having a more organized map will create a much more useful teaching tool.
